How to Fix a Double Tapped Breaker

shadow

A very common electrical deficiency that we find during our home inspections, is a double tapped breaker. Double tapping is having two conductor wires under one screw on a breaker designed only for one. This can cause overheating due to an improper connection. A simple solution, if there is room, is adding another breaker.

In this video, we will show you how to remove a double tapped breaker and add a new breaker. You will see that even without any experience and minimal tools, this is something you can do yourself. But remember, there is enough power in an electrical panel to cause serious injuries, if you are not comfortable around electricity, please consider hiring a professional electrician.
