How to Fix a Reverse Polarity Outlet

shadow

Hot / Neutral reversed, or reverse polarity, outlet is a common electrical deficiency that we find on many home inspections. As part of an inspection, we test as many outlets as possible to make sure that they work, are grounded, and are not damaged; but occasionally, we find outlets wired incorrectly. When the hot wire and the neutral wire are reversed, they will work, but they will be unsafe.

It’s a mistake that electricians or their apprentices do when wiring the outlet. In this video we will explain how it happens, what the issues can be and what to do about it. These types of repairs can be done safely, easily and for free if you are comfortable around electricity. If you are not, please visit our trade directory for a list of electrical companies that can help.
